Torchlight
So it turns out Torchlight is a really fun diablo-clone! I've also played Titan Quest (too slow for me) and Fate (too short and simple) which are similar to Diablo however I think Torchlight is the closest thing we'll get to D3 until the real thing.
Torchlight has 3 classes and has almost the exact same gameplay as Fate however each class has different skills you can learn (3 trees) and there are some shared skills (like Armor Mastery...etc). I thought I was playing Fate 2.0 (disregard sequels and expansions to Fate in this analogy)
The interface is very intuitive and I find myself wanting nothing more out of it other than a more in-depth stat screen (damage breakdown, total magic find...etc) From the feel of the game I think it is everything great about Fate (fast paced and lots of items, neat graphics) with some design changes D3 will have (inventory management, hotbar w/ skills). Oh, and your pet doesn't die every three seconds like it does in Fate.
Even though this game is an action-rpg following the steps of Diablo, it resembles Fate the most but with a ton of cool spells and effects.
Well worth $20.

Looks like just the game I've been looking for, I've just had a look at the trailer for it on you tube. Some nice graphics and very Diablo like game play. Thanks for the heads up!
Picked up a copy of Torchlight today! Great game! not quite as good as D2 but close enough to hold my interest. It puts me in mind of a more modern version of Diablo 1. I've started playing it on normal dificulty, which was probably a mistake because it seems rather easy.
Or maybe us Diablo veterans are just bad ass!!
I liked this game, although I didn't play it very long because of the lack of co-op in the game but it was good for the money spent over the steam christmas sale.
Never played it personally.
