No, I won't either. Although there were some awesome runewords in D2, imo it would be better if Blizzard focused on improving (a lot!) the crafting system. Crafted items have a great potential if the system is improved.
Yes! I can't live without them....
Not really, I will love the game even without them.
Runewords? What are those?
With the possibility of runewords being removed in D3, the question is:
"Will you miss them?"
Personally, I don't think I will. I would actually prefer more rare randomization/quality in exchange for the runewords. Let's see what happens...

i won't miss them one bit. D2 classic ftw!
Runes were aight, unnecessary though. Randomization of rares in d2 classic were fine and promoted more diversity. People would use whatever uber item they found(before duping of course); instead of a cloned Grief Sword 5000 other people used. I hope gambling is worthwhile in d3. I remember the gold hack month(summer 2002). I gambled about 2000+ ammys/rings/armor during period, all of them were worthless.
Its a hard call, I remember some of the best items (non-dup) coming from rune words. My HC PVP Pally would have been nothing without them, Ancients Pledge (shield) and Fury Mace, and Lionheart Armor or Smoke Armor, considering the Enhanced Defence was high, simply awsome, on a Zeal build your leach was awsome as you were always hitting somthing and fast. Best mix for PvM and PvP for PLD if you could find the runes. oh and if you maxed your resistance.

Runewords were great for elite players. the best items in the game were runewords but i wont miss them that much. i prefer unpredictability.
In my opinion, runewords made the game more interesting. If it wasn't for runewords, I wouldn't play Diablo II. I mean, look at Enigma. Who doesn't like Enigma? I loved it. I had it on any character that wasn't a sorceress. I don't think Runewords ruined the game. I think runewords improved the game. Made the game more playable.
Diablo II originally had no runewords, have you ever played diablo II without runewords? I think runewords were as pointless as all the uniques. Uniques weren't really unique in the sense that everybody had them and everybody used the same setup with the exact same items. It's not uncommon to join a game and find the same level 90+ chars using the same items. I prefer diablo II classic system of how rares were all radom, and everybody envied that one person who was lucky enough to get special rares like dual leech rings with prism resist or mf/speed/resist boots or that -30 ornate FHR with life/reist. Items like those are truely Unique.
Life is an art, your the artist, and the best paintings are ones filled with passion and emotions.
I think runewords and uniques should stay around, but rares should have a higher potential to be better.
I can go either way. I always felt a sense of accomplishment after tracking down all the different runes and the armor/weapon to throw them in. In the end, I just want the game to have a niche for people who enjoy performing the tedious task of compiling various items for some higher purpose; be it item creation or otherwise.
Fantastic!
