why not have a pouch that acted similar to the horadric cube. takes up 2 spaces in inventory but you can open it and it has 15 squares specifically for gems/runes.
okay and with that in mind how many would stack to what... different types stack differently etc... id say it would be flawed in a way to stack all small objects runes etc... lets face it weve all dropped and sold things on accident hows about accidently selling 10 "vex" runes at once without the ability to get em back ... i dno... id think a numbered system is simply flawed theres an old saying my dad told me "if it aint broke dont fix it" with that in mind gimmie more pages and a bigger chest or simply change up how many spots "x" item takes and so on.... just my opinion however....

The thing is since D3 is trying to move away from questing miles away from camp, tping back, going into the wilderness, coming back...etc and selling stuff, we need bigger backpacks in order to accommodate more items that accumulate since we're out of town longer...
how long did your backpack honestly last without constantly selling stuff?

well id like to see something like the magic pouches as seen on nwn (god i owned some servers on that) i think it would be appllicable though the weight requirement -20% or what have you wouldnt matter because it is a touch different in d2/3 id think just a multiple page design with clickable tabs would really be the way to go the size of the items could stay the same if you have for instance four pages... with that said it wont be done due to the matter of holding 4 pages of charms and such.... but if you were to make some sort of bag type item simply for holding goods this would be a good idea i feel... and keep your cube free of crap that in the long run you need to move and or drop when you actually use the cube ... magic pouches would be a sweet addition to the d3 world imo but hey i suppose we will just have to see what they decide on doing. only a few more months to go WOOOOOOT
EDIT- my back pack could hold exactly .... 1 armor 35k ez but if you were really in it for the gold it would be a different story... since gold will hold and have value now it would make sense that yes... you would need more space, in addition to what i said before if they only made charms on the first page of a multi tabbed clickable page system active to your character then yeah... there may be some possibilities for it.

atm vash charms havnt been really been mentioned so no1 is certain that they are in(unless ive missed some news lol in which case sorry). But if they are in u wount be able to use the whole backpack to fill up with charms, they would just set a limit of effective charms u could use.
And yes i hope they are clever an have gem and rune poches because it is silly to think they would take up as much space as body armour.
Also due to increased number of items on your character i.e leggings etc, you will need more inventory space simply because u will be equiping more and hence pick up more!
I just pray that the stash is massive! i mean really really big so i dont have to mule, or if i do mule i could do it not ingame and have a simple transfer system between my characters.
I don't really care if they do a grid-by-grid inventory slot system, I can still see what the item is by looking at it and moving my mouse over it, why would I need it to be humongous and take up 20 spaces, just as long as the grid slots aren't teeny tiny as to where it takes me 10 minutes just to get my mouse at the right position to pick it up, i'm fine with whatever they do.
I hope that if you can hire people to fight for you liek in D2 then you can make them hold stuff for you =]
Also, i think instead of a chest you should be able to use a horse drawn carrige as your stash , that would be cool
