    Default Potions

From what I've heard and read, there will be no potions. Instead they are replaced with runes that are dropped from monsters. Is this true?

    Here's what we know:

We always want the player moving forward, and we want the pace of play to be fast. No WoW system of stopping to drink potions after a fight. We view Diablo as a very fast paced active game. Little to no downtime is one of our goals.

The great thing about health globes that drop off of monsters when they die it encourages players to fight on, whether they're low or high on health. It creates positional gameplay where you need to consider the type of attack based on where you are positioned and where the monsters are located. Our health system forces the player to go someplace they don't want to go. "Oh no, I need to get that thing, but I have to get past 10 monsters to do it." It's really exciting.
So when an enemy drops a heath globe your party will be healed for a certain % (the players not picking up the globe will have to be within a certain distance of the player who picked the globe up to receive the benefits)

    RAz, thanks for that quote!

Seems like there's hope yet. I just love it when they publicly distance Diablo 3 from WoW.

What bothers me about no potions is that if you want to kill stronger monsters, how do you? To get health, you have to kill. But if you can't kill, then what? You'll be stuck at weaker monsters, which is most of the time boring.

It could be just me, but I loved killing the stronger monsters. It was always boring for me to 1 hit everything and never die.

Even though there hasn't been an official statement I'm pretty confident bosses will drop health globes when you're attacking them. I can also see health globe shrines being implemented throughout the game like God Of War and Devil May Cry.

No matter what, I will probably still use whatever version of potions they have like I did in D2.

Although with them implementing a currency system where gold is worth something, Buying potions (or whatever they will make potions into), is going to cut into the gold you have for trading with other people. This might be a small part of why they are going with heal globes, so people don't have to spend gold on potions.

    That's understandable.

Whatever they decide, I'm sure it'll be a great game.

I'm just bad when it comes to changes. The game is announced, it looks the same, but then so many things start changing.

No potioooons?? Items with life leach of 110% I guess :P. loool "We tried a Halo kind of shield system with a very quick regeneration, but it didn't give us the effect we wanted. It forced players to leave combat to recover health and we never want that".
It would be nice to have a shift+skill to hold up your shield and have a +% to blocking, like max block is 75% but with skill you would have 90%. The fun thing would be is you could block ele attacks. Like a bone spear or a fire ball(explodes on shield).
Health globe drops and everybody on the screen runs for the globe or an extreme version of lt cold rase the survivability chances.
