Diablo 3 Beta Testing

The official word on Diablo 3 is out: the hugely successful game will undergo beta testing. Official sources suggest that this would be a closed beta and quite unlike the one carried out for World of Warcraft. While the developers of Diablo 3 are keen to get a realistic feedback from the gaming enthusiasts, they want to make sure everything is in order before launching it commercially.


The beta version is expected to be launched six months before the actual release, which means that the gamers can expect a beta launch by summer 2011. Players need to have a valid Battle.net account in addition to a beta profile in order to be eligible for future tests.

A beta profile is essentially a gist of your system specifications, including information like hard disk capacity, RAM availability and graphics card driver, among others. Blizzard needs this information to trial the games on a variety of opening systems with different specifications. Beta keys are handed to players, media and fan sites which are allowed to get them redistributed in the manner they deem fit.

The next obvious questions in Diablo addicts would be the contents of D-3 beta. If the beta testing of Diablo 2 was anything to go by, it would be fair to conclude that only act I would be covered in the D3 beta. Since the entire plot of a game is sometimes given away by playing the beta, Blizzard is very particular about concealing all the important details. However, it is also unlikely to impose any NDAs on future beta testing.

Bizzard is also cognizant of the fact that the memory of the fans is as good or bad as their previous experience. Therefore, it is keen to make sure that the beta version is attractive enough to entice current as well as new gamers.
